Omanthai railway station to open on May 27
The newly built Omanthai railway station will be opened on May 27. The railway station has been renovated with modern facilities, Sri Lanka Railway's Planning Director Wijaya Samarasinghe said.
The Omanthai railway station is one of the main stations on the Northern railway line leading up to KKS.
The Sri Lanka Railway renovated the Northern railway line up to Omanthai prior to the Indian government funded reconstruction of the track, he added.
The rail track was destroyed by the LTTE beyond Thandikulam and no trains were operated for the past three decades.
The government started reconstruction of the track in 2009, after liberating the country from terrorism, he further added.
