Upeksha seeks divorce
Upeksha Swarnamali (Paba), Member of Parliament and teledrama actress, yesterday filed a divorce plaint in the District Court of Colombo, seeking to annul her two-year-old marriage with Mahesh Charminda.
Upeksha aged 25 years had alleged cruelty committed by her 23-year-old husband. They had married in June 2009, after a romance of four years. The plaint said that the defendant had assaulted her even prior to the marriage, while she was acting in a teledrama. Cruelty had been cited as the matrimonial offence committed by her husband.
She had claimed Rs. 20 million in damages from her businessman husband who is engaged in car sales.
