Two million bank heist at Kosgoda
A two member gang on a motor cycle robbed Rs. 2 million worth of gold jewellery that had been taken out of the vault for customers to redeem at the People’s Bank branch at Kosgoda, Balapitiya yesterday morning (July 18).
According to Police sources the robbers had arrived at about 10:00 a.m., assaulted the security officers on duty, taken their weapons and entered the bank.
He said that they had even fired in the air to scare the onlookers. One of the assaulted security officers has been hospitalized with injuries. After the robbery the two robbers had fled towards Galle on the motor cycle.
SSP Sisira Kumara and ASP Mirando are directing the investigations conducted by the HQI of Kosgoda Police Chief Inspector Chandra Premalal and a team of officers.
Police are confident of making an arrest soon, even though there were no clues till last evening.
