Police back at Katunayake, STF remains
The government has re-deployed police at Katunayake, though the elite Special Task Force (STF) will continue to remain to face any eventuality.
The Defence Ministry deployed a large army contingent at Katunayake following last week’s clash between the police and a section of garment workers which led to the death of a 22-year-old worker. DIG Prasanna Nanayakkara, in charge of Western Province North, told The Island that the STF would continue to operate in the Katunayake police area. The police said that 81 officers and men from the Kelaniya and Gamapaha divisions had been assigned to Katunayake police station in place of the personnel transferred to other divisions following the clash.
