Sri Lanka's Tamil terrorist outfit LTTE may have executed its military spokesman, an Indian news agency said.
Indo Asian News Agency (IANS) of India citing Tamil sources reported today that the Tigers may have killed their high-profile military spokesman Irasiah Ilanthirayan for being a "traitor" when the LTTE suffered huge losses at the hands of the Sri Lankan Army early this year.
The report says there were speculations among the Tamil circles for around a month that Ilanthirayan alias Marshall has been executed.
IANS said according to the Tamil activists who spoke to the news agency from Sri Lanka, Ilanthirayan was accused of being linked to the Sri Lankan intelligence and of plotting against the LTTE.
It has been reported in Sri Lanka in January that Ilanthirayan had attempted to desert the LTTE and surrender to the Army, but on his way to the government controlled area he had been caught and imprisoned by the Tigers on order from the leadership.
Ilanthirayan, known to the media as the LTTE military spokesman had a friendly attitude with the international journalists. He hasn't been heard since the major military offensive began in late 2008.
