At least we have a prisoner’s meal: people haven’t even that -Gen. Fonseka
“ At least we are eating prisoner’s meals (hirabath) . Morning we get rice and pol sambol; and at noon , rice , dhal and dried fish, but the common man is hard put even to have such a meal. He is living in fear because his life is always at stake. He hasn’t the means to eat a simple ‘prisoner’s meal. If this situation has to change, these corrupt rulers should be chased away.” These were the comments made by the former Army Commander Gen. Fonseka when he was being taken to Hospital from prison for medical treatment.
Gen. Fonseka was the common opposition candidate at the last Presidential elections where he was defeated by the President Mahinda Rajapakse on a controversial election result riddled with alleged malpractices and election irregularities.
