Default Katunayake trade zone workers stranded: an unidentified body discovered in Dalugama s

UNP M P Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena addressing a media briefing this morning revealed , a large number of workers in the Katunayake free trade zone have been stranded and an unidentified body has been discovered in the Dalugama stream.

Speaking further , he said , the Army interfering with the funeral proceedings of late Roshan Chanaka , the worker at Katunayake free trade zone who was killed by the police constitutes a violation of human rights apart from the sacrilege committed due to Army obstructions at the cemetery.

I too went to the Gal oluwa Roman catholic church to attend the funeral services of Roshan Chanaka , Dr. Jayawardena said. The final funeral rites unfortunately were performed under Army control amid heavily armed army personnel who were hovering in large numbers . As a catholic myself I totally condemn these large Army groups carrying T 56 weapons who were forcibly present near the church jostling among the mourners and those who came for the funeral causing obstruction and anxiety among the crowds . As the church was a place of peace and not war , the Army’s presence was uncalled for. Those workers of the zone and others who attended the funeral lamented that even the transport services had been curtailed in order to obstruct them from attending the funeral, Dr. Jayawardena pointed out.
