Buses plying the Galle road have stopped work and are currently on strike, the Private Bus Owners Association said today. Association President Gemunu Wijeyratne said that all buses starting from Panadura, Moratuwa, Kalutara, Aluthgama and buses on the Mathugama-Colombo route have all stopped work.

“At this time it is difficult to say when the strike will stop and may continue tomorrow. We suspect that the strike will continue tomorrow as well,” Wijeyratne said.

A private bus allegedly knocked against a SLTB bus operating from the Ratmalana depot damaging the side mirror of the SLTB bus which led to the assault of the private bus driver and union workers say they refuse to stop the strike.

The private bus worker is being treated at the Panadura hospital.
