Newlyweds William and Kate greeted the Obamas in the grand 1844 room of Buckingham Palace at the start of the US state visit to the UK.
It was the first time Kate had undertaken a role as a member of the royal family since her wedding.
There were no television cameras nor reporters in the room for the meeting.
A Clarence House spokeswoman said the couples spent around 20 minutes together, chatting informally.
William and Kate returned from their romantic honeymoon in the Seychelles at the weekend and made a special trip to the Palace to see the President and Mrs Obama.
